Discovery Insure is the short-term insurance arm of Discovery Limited, one of South Africa's largest financial services groups. It launched in 2011 and has grown rapidly on the back of its Vitality Drive programme — a behaviour-based system that monitors your driving and rewards safe drivers with premium discounts, petrol cashback, and other benefits.
You can get a quote directly from Discovery Insure at discovery.co.za/insure.
Discovery Insure uses a telematics device or smartphone app to monitor your driving behaviour — speed, braking, acceleration, and the time of day you drive. Safe driving earns Vitality Drive points, which translate into premium discounts of up to 50% and petrol cashback at participating fuel stations.
For genuinely safe drivers, Discovery Insure can become one of the most cost-effective options in the market once the Vitality rewards fully apply. For drivers who are unwilling to be monitored or who drive in high-risk patterns, the rewards will not materialise and the base premium may be higher than direct alternatives.
Discovery Insure is best suited to safe, engaged drivers who are already in the Discovery ecosystem and value the integration across medical aid, banking, and insurance. The Vitality Drive rewards are real and substantial — but require active participation to realise. Drivers who want a simple, low-cost policy without behavioural monitoring will find better value elsewhere.
