Suzuki Is One Of Japan's Oldest Automotive Companies
Last Updated: 09 October 2018
Suzuki was founded in 1909 as Suzuki Loom Works, producing looms and exporting them overseas until 1937 when the founder Michio Suzuki ventured into the automotive trade. Suzuki further expanded their offering by venturing into the production of motorcycles. More than 80 years later, Suzuki has become an automotive giant in its own right. If you're looking for a spacious SUV on a tight budget, you need not look any further than the Suzuki Ignis. It can easily seat four adults in complete comfort, so much so that in the back passenger seats there's space between the front seats and your knees. Suzuki has made sure the Ignis is as comfortable a car as possible.
The Ignis does a good job at absorbing bumps while driving and has an impressive ground clearance of 180mm. It's also imressively quick for a non-turbo engine, managing 0-100km/h in just 11.6 seconds.
The Suzuki Jimny is like that friend who does their best not to attract attention, gets along with everyone and quietly goes about their business until one day you realize they're extremely skilled at something. The Jimny can do a whopping 27.6km per litre on the open road and with a 40 litre tank, you're looking at a range of 1104km.
The interior controls are chunky and solid, making it easy to operate even when wearing gloves. The boot has had a minor change in that the door is hinged on the side instead of the top, which could make access in tight spots a tad difficult.
Having sold more than a million in a decade, the Swift is Suzuki's best selling vehicle. The Swift offers such value for money that big-name competitors would need to take a serious knock in profits to compete. With the increased interior space, improved performance and lighter weight, it's not difficult to see why Suzuki has sold so many.
It has good grip around corners and the handling balance is respectable for a car in this segment. The Swift does have minor driving issues, but overall the experience is a precise and engaging one.
